Cultural Limitations
by Bikbaye Inejnema

Power and control. These two concepts are the prime motivational factors behind the degeneration of the human species. Ever since the first invasion of Kemet (Africa) by the Romans for the sole purpose of usurping the throne of the Pharaoh, the world has been a playground for murder and mayhem. Entire civilizations have become extinct as a result of the destruction caused by those that simply wanted more of their share. This is an age old story, but it remains to be the driving force behind the thoughts and actions of humanity at large. These concepts are so deeply imbedded within the human psyche, that most times we are not even conscious of the repetition in our behaviors that reflect our desire to somewhat feel greater or more superior than we really are.

There are numerous events that are taking place right now in many parts of the world that clearly show the measures entire governments will go to in order to achieve the goal of controlling the masses. This observation can be seen by any intelligent person. But what is often overlooked is how each of us, on an individual level, has contributed to the downfall of the human civilization, knowingly or unknowingly.

There are many diverse ways a person or a society can be controlled. Of the many, the ability to control the emotional aspect of an individual is perhaps the most effective in rendering that individual or society helpless and powerless in their pursuit of survival on a spiritual and material level. This form of control is so powerful, because of hundreds of years of conditioning, that the individual dare not go outside of what he has been exposed to and will defend it with his life, even if the existence of other realities were brought to his attention. Whatıs even more dynamic is the fact that the individual will pass his convictions to his children, which ensures the perpetuation of the control factor for generations to come.

The world is made of two types of people: producers and consumers; with the latter describing the majority of the modern society in which we live. A producer, depending on the means he uses, can convince a consumer that what he is selling, whether it be clothes, food, cars, jewelry, insurance, or even salvation, is in the best interest of the consumer to attain. This simple strategy has worked all but too well over the course of the last 2000 years.

It was only a generation ago when the civil rights movement became the focus of American inequality due to a black woman from the South, Rosa Parks, refusing to move to the back of the bus where blacks normally would sit because of segregation and racism. Her oppositional and defiant behavior rallied millions of people to protest and demonstrate for the right to sit in the front of the bus with the whites, to attend the same schools as the whites, to eat in the same restaurants as the whites, to use the same bathroom as the whites, to live in the same communities as the whites, to drink from the same fountains as the whites, and so on.

Ironically, the leaders and organizers of this movement felt as if they were succeeding where the generation before them had failed. But they passed over one very important aspect; everything they were fighting and dying for was from the standpoint of consumers, not producers. I wonder how different the outcome would have been if we, as a people, had encouraged the masses to put their financial resources together and build our own bus companies, schools, fountains, hotels, etc. The small percentage of blacks that did possess the producer mentality were able to live rather comfortable and were able to maintain some longevity in their businesses, even until today. Basically, as long as you produce something that is needed, the chances of success are very favorable.

The same holds true when it comes to our spirituality. As my teacher Master Naba says, Wwherever your beliefs lie, is where your resources will go." People of color spend hundreds of millions of dollars every year in church donations, tithes, taxes, etc. Whose world are they contributing to? This aspect of control, through the emotions, is without a doubt the greatest spiritual holocaust people of color have experienced, and we are still going through it with our eyes wide shut. This modern system has somehow convinced people of color, especially those of us in America, that before Christianity or Islam was introduced to the world, there was nothing here that enabled the population to live a spiritual existence. The brainwashing is so bad, many of us will become extremely emotional and ready to defend the practices of another culture instead of our own. This is control at its highest level.

There is nobody more dangerous than the individual that thinks heıs right, because there is no minimum emotional level he will escalate to\ in accordance with the convictions heıs trying to express. He will even commit murder in his attempt to convince the world that what he has been exposed to concerning religion/spirituality is all there is. To such an individual, there was nothing here before the modern religions that is worthy of any consideration. Even while there is clear evidence of how and when people of color lost our names, language, Gods and tradition, the mind control that victimizes all of us will not allow the individual to logically evaluate the sequence of events that have led to his current situation. At that point, the individualıs emotions take over and the degeneration of the human intelligence is displayed again and again.

We must give some attention to the modern education system as well. It is here, in our schools, where the individual is groomed and assimilated into a culture that does not reflect his own nature. Instead, it creates an individual without an identity who sincerely wants to be a part of something bigger than himself. Therefore, the individual easily adapts to what he is exposed to, and from a cultural standpoint, marks the beginning of the brainwashing process. How many traditional African institutions are here in America? Besides the Earth Center, are there any other schools of knowledge that are not led by people that have read thousands of books and are suddenly experts in traditional spirituality? Besides the Earth Center, are there places one can go and be taught by an authentic Kemetic/Dogon priest? Besides the Earth Center, where can a person go to learn how to read, write and speak Medu (hieroglyphs) without using books written by Europeans as a reference? Besides the Earth Center, where can one go to learn how to use rare African herbs to cure illnesses? Besides the Earth Center, where can one go to learn the most original form of meditation known to man as it is taught in the initiation camps of deep Africa? If anyone knows the answer to one or all of these questions, please email me at bikbaye1@theearthcenter.com to inform me of the existence of other like institutions.

The Earth Center is here to give back the power and control that the system took from us since the moment we were born. The Earth Center breeds producers, which comes as a result of shifting the entire paradigm of thought and action. In order for a paradigm shift to take place, the individual must first be given all of the elements needed (about the self and the culture) that will provide a clear picture of what point the individual has to go from. In contrast, the modern education systems and religions give to the individual what they feel is only in the best interest of that school or system, excluding the individual himself. This prevents the student from having other things to compare with what he is being taught. It also hinders the understanding of the world around the individual and therefore creates a fear or suspicion of anything outside of what he is being exposed to.

It is up to us, this generation, to do things differently for the benefit of the generations to come. We must first re-educate ourselves with the values that belong to us, the language that belongs to us and the culture that belongs to us as well. If this basic first step is not taken, we will fail the generation after us and pass on the problem of not having a culture to identify with.. This is our reality. As Master Naba once said, ³If the truth hurts me, then I am lying.² Itıs time to accept the truth my people, and not repeat the same things over and over, which will always give us the same results.
