Governmental corruption was once thought of as being something that other countries faced rather than something that was prevalent in our own country. Perhaps the rulers of this establishment were better at hiding their philandering in times past, or perhaps they are simply doing more dirt nowadays than they were before, but people living in America are beginning to see through the clouds of brainwashing and cover-ups; we are realizing that governmental corruption is not reserved only for other countries. The public as a whole is slowly starting to wake up from the comatose consciousness that has been planted in our lives and is starting to realize that our government and authority organizations are nothing but a legitimized mafia that are interested only in their own agenda. The evidence of corruption, lies, and greed is not hard to find if one only looks, and no agency or division of the government is innocent. From the FDA to the USDA and from the military to the Supreme Court, one can find proof of coverups, misdeeds, and untruth. Police officers have a reputation in many groups of this society to be corrupted, power-hungry mongrels. People of color experience profiling and harassment daily from these figures of authority. Officers are constantly accused of abusing or beating citizens, planting evidence, abusing their authority, and taking bribes. In cities like Chicago, it is a well-known fact that many police officers are on street gang payrolls, paid to look the other way when drug deals and gang activity take place. It is also a well-known fact that the authorities help supply the drugs that they arrest people for selling or possessing. While some fool themselves into believing that these assessments of the officers who are supposed to be protecting us are just emotional sentiments from welfare recipients and wrongdoers, those who look will see that these accusations are not false. Those who choose not to believe, however, can now be assured that the rest of us are not conspiracy theorists with too much time on our hands, as 16 current and former law enforcement officers and US soldiers have recently been charged with accepting more than $222,000 in bribes to help move drugs past checkpoints in Arizona! After receiving a tip about individual drug trafficking, the FBI set up a fake organization in December 2001.FBI agents posed as cocaine traffickers in a 3.5 year sting operation. Military and police personnel were then lured with money to help distribute cocaine or allow it to pass through the checkpoints they were guarding. Eleven defendants pled guilty to the charges, admitting that they used their public positions to assist in transporting cocaine, and all agreed to plead guilty to being part of a bribery and corruption conspiracy, according to the Justice Department. The guilty officials wore official uniforms, carried official identification, and used official vehicles in their dealings. Interestingly, the offenders got off with the proverbial slap on the wrist (while individual marijuana sellers get hauled to high-security prisons for years!) - they were not arrested and agreed to cooperate with an investigation that is thought to bring more arrests and expose people from different agencies. "Many individuals charged were sworn personnel having the task of protecting society and securing Americašs borders. The importance of these tasks can not be over-stated and we cannot tolerate, nor can the American people afford, this type of corruption," said FBI Agent Jana D. Monroe. While Monroe claims that this type of corruption cannot be tolerated, those guilty of the crimes remain unpunished. Meanwhile, a US Border Patrol agent in Texas and his brother plead guilty to accepting $1.5 million to allow drugs through their checkpoint.
