If Liberia truly wishes to progress
as an independent country, she has no interest in United States
Government intervention in the ongoing civil crisis of the country.
Civil unrest, dead civilians, and hundreds of thousands of refugees
may give one reason to think that the US Government intervention
could be useful and needed, but if we look beyond the present moment,
it is not in the interest of Liberia, Liberians, Africa, or Black
people as a whole for foreign colonial governments to intrude.
It is a well-known fact that the CIA
is a vital part of many coups and situations of unrest around the
world. Liberia has not escaped this reality, as former president
Taylor was originally supported and funded by the CIA - hence his
rise to power. Now that the former American puppet has fallen from
favor of the USA because he refused to give the US Government sole
mining rights, US sponsored coups were created and civil unrest
continues..... Who is supporting each side in the civil warfare
in Liberia, and what are their interests in the country? Virtually
all colonialist governments create unrest in areas for which they
have an interest, and instigating a war (such as in Iraq) is not
taboo in their quest to fulfill their agendas of greed, colonialization
and power.
Liberians, without a doubt, are suffering.
People are dying. People are sick and without proper care. Others
have fled and are uprooted from their homes. Yes, Liberia is in
need of action and change. But this change cannot come from outside.
Should the United States Government,
or any other colonial government, for that matter, decide to fully
aid Liberia and assure peace in the country,
the future will hold only more of the same colonialization, theft
and oppression that has been forced on Africa for thousands of years.
A new government will be created, as it was in all other colonialized
African countries, which does not serve the people or their culture
but rather the father government which sponsored its
creation. This situation is seen all over Africa: former colonies
of France (Burkina Faso, Togo, Ivory Coast, etc) feature governments
that declare French as the national language, rely on French banks
for their money, adhere to the Western educational system and promote
Western lifestyle and basically serve the interest of the father
governments; former colonies of Britain (Ghana, Nigeria, etc) suffer
the same fate. Liberiašs future will be no different, and Liberians
will never be allowed to determine their lives for themselves, but
rather, it will be determined for them according to the interests
of foreign governments at any particular moment.
Instead of calling on congressmen,
senators and other government agencies to aid Liberia, we should
be ensuring that the US Government (seen as a tyrant and troublemaker
by most of the world) stays OUT of the country. If real change is
to be made, it is honest non-governmental agencies, groups and individuals
who must unite to aid Liberia.
Instead of bringing in US or UN troops
to ensure peace, we should applaud neighboring countries for taking
charge of their homeland (which is divided into modern countries
only because of former colonialization and division) and support
their self-determining efforts and courage.
Instead of sending Western medical
and hospital supplies, we should encourage use of traditional healers
and methods, which are, more often than not, superior to Western
medicine, thus encouraging the traditional economy and strengthening
traditional culture rather than aiding the colonialization efforts
of superpower governments.
Instead of sending high school books,
we should be looking for ways to strengthen the local education
and culture by finding ways for Liberians (and all Africans) to
create their own schoolbooks, with images of their people, culture
and lives. Western schoolbooks contain much misinformation, false
history and colonial propaganda which will only aid in the collective
and perpetual colonialization of Liberia and Africa.
Instead of providing opportunities
for the US, UN or other Western governments to take raw materials
and resources, concerned people worldwide should stand up and ensure
that Liberiašs wealth remains in Liberia! Yes, Mr. Gbayee was correct
when he said that First, it has to come from the people...
Real change comes from people uniting and insisting on change, not
from bully governments forcing change to suit their interests.
We must not be fooled. Many governmental
workers have been colonialized to the point that they do not see
the damage that father governments and initiatives have on their
progress. Liberiašs future is up for grabs - letšs make
sure that Liberiašs future is in the hands of the Liberian people
rather than the US or another colonial government.
